Criminal Charges Against Tony Yayo Dismissed

by FuKdAtShHh on Feb.14, 2008, under Hip Hop News

Criminal charges against rapper G-Unit member Tony Yayo were dismissed today (February 14), although the rapper pled guilty to a violation, regarding an incident last March involving the 14-year-old son of a rival music executive. In March of 2007, Yayo, born Marvin Bernard, was accused of backhanding the son of music executive Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond, who manages a number of top rappers, including G-Unit rival The Game. According to Yayo’s attorney Scott Leemon, Yayo agreed to the plea to avoid a trial and labeled the violation a “glorified traffic ticket” that will not effect the rapper’s criminal record. Leemon said the court proceedings should have ended months ago, when it was learned an associate of Yayo’s named Lowell Fletcher admitted to the assault after his arrest in March of 2007. “The Hip-Hop police buried this helpful information and the charges against Tony Yayo proceeded until today. Without a doubt, today’s proceedings have validated Mr. Bernard’s claims that he was falsely accused.”

Hip-Hop producer Jazze Pha and executive Kenny Burns have teamed with TNT Networks to remake the song “Basketball Jones,” originally a hit for comedians Cheech & Chong. Basketball Jones, which is a spoof of Brighter Side of Darkness’ song “Love Jones,” was originally released in 1975. The song, which was produced in less than two hours, features vocals by Jazze Pha with vocals by from singer Esther Dean and a spoken word rap by Burns. “We wanted to do something fun and serious at the same time,” Jazze Pha told AllHipHop.com. “Just like any sport, you gotta have a moment to breathe and regroup in between time, and Basketball Jones is that refreshment.” According to Jazze Pha, who has worked with artists like Chris Brown, Usher, Ciara, Mary J. Blige and others, the single will be introduced during NBA’s All-Star weekend in New Orleans.
