BUFFALO, N.Y.(AP)– A collection agency tried to collect a $16.96 debt with an letter that addressed its recipient with a four-letter word for excrement. “Dear S—,” began the letter attempting to collect from an old record club membership. The word was spelled out in the letter, which arrived in an envelope addressed to “S— Face.”

“I’ve never seen anything quite so brazen,” said attorney Kenneth Hiller.

He said his client plans to sue Nationwide Collections Inc. of Fort Pierce, Florida, next week.

Under U.S. law, debt collectors are not allowed to use profanity to collect a debt, Hiller said, nor are they supposed to threaten legal action over such a small amount.

Nationwide President Phillip McGarvey said the October 2007 letter was automatically generated after his company bought about 350,000 Columbia House accounts. “S— Face” is the name under which the account was opened and the way the coupon to start the club was filled out, he said.

Hiller’s client has signed an affidavit saying he never signed up for the music club membership under that name.

“It looks bad to the observer who is not familiar with the industry,” acknowledged McGarvey, “but anybody who understands the volume would understand how this could happen. …You’ve also got people filling in famous people’s names.”

UGK member Bun B. will give his first performance tonight (February 1) since the death of group member Chad “Pimp C.” Butler. Bun B., born Bernard Freeman, will perform a tribute concert to Pimp C. for fans, friends and family members at Warehouse Live. Pimp C. 33, was found dead in his Los Angeles hotel room on December 4, 2007. No official cause of death has been listed and the LA County Coroner is still testing to find out how Pimp C. died. Fans of UGK still have a reason to celebrate, as Bun B. revealed that he is working on a new solo album titled II Trill. II Trill is a commentary album that will address a number of political and social issues and will contain a tribute song to Pimp C.

South Bronx rapper Fat Joe and his accountant have come forward to deny recent reports that the rapper was indebted to the IRS. According to the reports, Fat Joe, born Joseph Cartagena, and his company Terror Squad Productions each owed the New Jersey Treasury over $70,000 dollars in back taxes, for a total liability of close to $150,000 dollars.”I definitely pay my taxes,” Joe told AllHipHop.com. “I’m straight up with it. The first thing I ever learned in the entertainment business is you gotta pay the IRS. First thing. Before I take a dollar, before I buy me a bag of potato chips, I pay those people.”
