Horse wins Halloween contest
by FrEiBeRgS2002 on Oct.27, 2007, under Weird News
Erie, PA— Here’s a Halloween story, that may have gone too far.
The Petsmart in Erie, Pennsylvania, held its annual costume contest on Tuesday night. Pet-owners can dress up their pets, even more so than they usually do.
But Debbie Bollinger brought her Clydesdale horse to the contest, all dressed up as a standard poodle. “Royal” is a 2,000-pound Clydesdale, and he didn’t look all that happy about the evening. Debbie showed standard poodles for 25 years, and said it was the perfect way to bring it all together.
“Royal” wound up winning the contest, which turned into a real dog and pony show.

Troy Vollberg of Tri-State Glass was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of conspiracy and fraud for allegedly hiring others to break the windows on 149 buses in Scottsdale Unifired School District in April and August, The Arizona Republic reported. Three other unnamed suspects also were arrested. The vandalism cost taxpayers $339,000, the newspaper said. “The arrests came after leads were developed from calls to Silent Witness, which offered a $4,000 reward for information,” said Sgt. Mark Clark, a Scottsdale police spokesman. Investigators also followed the money, Clark said. United Press International

Prisoners put out fire, save prison
by FrEiBeRgS2002 on Oct.27, 2007, under Weird News
FYRESDAL, Norway (UPI) — Some prisoners at Arendal Prison in Fyresdal, Norway, were rewarded after they chose to fight a fire rather than use the opportunity to flee.
Firefighters arrived about 40 minutes after the blaze was reported, but the flames had been extinguished and a prisoner sleeping near the fire had been rescued before they made it to the scene, Aftenposten reported Tuesday.
“I don’t dare think what would have happened if the prisoners themselves hadn’t discovered the fire and helped fight it,” prison guard Daniel Trollsas said.
“We couldn’t let such a nice prison burn down,” said Ronny Stenberg, one of the prisoners who fought the flames.
“I’ve done time in a closed prison, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone,” Stenberg said. He said that was part of the reason prisoners worked so hard to save their prison.
The prison held a party for the prisoners in celebration of their heroism with cake and candy.
“About 10-12 years ago prisoners took responsibility and saved my life when one of the inmates went completely berserk and tried to kill me. Now I have had another chance to experience that this prison is full of so many good and reasonable people that when things get dangerous, it is the prisoners that take charge,” Trollsas said.

Cornbread
by FrEiBeRgS2002 on Oct.27, 2007, under Funny Jokes
On Coast Guard cutters, low-ranking crew members take turns in the galley helping the cooks. One young seaman aboard was always dropping dishes and spilling food.
One day, alone in the galley, he noticed an unfrosted yellow sheet cake cooling on a counter. Determined to rectify past errors, the seaman made chocolate icing and decorated the cake with it. The seaman stood proudly by the dessert as the head cook returned to the galley.
Frantically, the cook began to look around. “Where did my CORNBREAD go?” he shouted.
